Dennis Swanson, Photographer

It started when Dennis was 12 years old; his mother gave him his first Kodak Brownie camera just before they took a family trip to Hawaii. He fell in love with photography and that love is still going strong. Dennis began his professional photography career in 1982 working as a photographer at the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1984 he graduated from Brooks Institute of Photographic Arts and Science in Santa Barbara and ventured back to his hometown in Los Angeles to work as an assistant for several commercial photographers. During that time he helped photograph everything from pizza and Porsches to flowers and caskets.

In 1987 he married Deborah and became a full-time photographer for Danick Studios in Granada Hills California, shooting portraits, weddings, and commercial products. In 1988, Dennis and Deborah moved to San Luis Obispo to start Studio 101 West.

In 2000 Dennis bought his first digital camera and dove into digital photography with enthusiasm. Already familiar with Photoshop it was an easy and exciting transition. Today over 90% of his work is digitally captured and his clients love the quality, faster turn-around and greater creative control that Dennis can give them.
